HOCKEY - RULES

6x6 - Mixed

Sportsmanship, camaraderie and having fun are the 3 most important things in all CMSS activities. Please keep these in mind when playing.

• All captains are required to bring a copy of the rules along with them to every game as well as make sure that all of their team-mates and subs are aware of them prior to the start of the game.

• All captains and individuals are responsible for bringing their own first aid kit (especially useful is a chemical ice pack).

• Captains must email scores in by 17:00 the day following their games. If this is not done, a tie or loss will be recorded. No exceptions.

• All players should bring a white and black shirt to every game. As a general rule, team home wears black and away wears white.

• The game is played with 5 players plus a goalie. You must have a minimum of 2 women and 2 men on the court at all times. If a team does not show up with the minimum amount of required players (women and men), they will lose their game by default with a score 1-0. No exceptions.

• Women may play any position on the court (including goalie).

• Games begin sharply on the hour. Please ensure that your team arrives on time and is ready to play when the game begins. End times are firm despite start times.

• BEFORE the start of any game the captains may decide amongst each other whether or not they would like to change sides at the mid-point of the game. This may occur in the case of the venue giving an unfair advantage to any team due to any sort of obstruction. A captain that requests a switch pre-game MUST be accommodated. The FP monitor may be used to facilitate this by notifying teams of the mid-point of the game.

• Games are 55 minutes straight time (no break for half-time) unless one team has requested it.

• If the ball gets trapped behind or between any obstructions (i.e. Monkey bars) it is considered in play and possession will be given to the player that arrives to the area first. NO pushing in corners.  The first player who gets to the ball in a corner has possession.

• You must be over the half line to score. Any goal scored before the halfway line will be disallowed (Including, the case of a deflection).

• After a goal is scored teams go back to their respective sides, and the team that was scored on has possession. Once a player from the team in possession of the ball, crosses the center line, the defending team can cross center and attack the ball.  If the team with the ball is taking too long to cross the center line, the defending team will count to 5 and then attack. (In order to prevent a team from wasting time towards the end of the game)

• Please bring your own hockey stick. Your hockey stick must be in good shape with no tape on the bottom so as not to damage gym floors.

• GOALIES MUST WEAR A MASK OR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY.

• Goalies may wear goalie pads, trapper and blocker. However, this equipment will not be provided by CMSS.

• If the ball remains immobilized on any part of the net, or exits the playing surface, the team that touched it last loses possession. The ball will be placed on the side or behind the goal line (depending on where the ball exited play) and the team in possession then has 5 seconds to shoot or pass the ball (without pressure from the opposing team).  After 5 seconds the player can advance with the ball and the opposing team can attack the ball

• Your team may decide to play without a goalie and the nets turned over facing the centre line. There is no penalty for this. However, if this is the case then the game automatically falls into a 5 on 5 game

• line changes can be made anytime during the game.

• No timeouts or delays for play stoppage. (Except in the case of an injury)

• One technical timeout (1 min) per game will be allocated to each team in order to clarify any misunderstandings in the rules.

• No intentional sliding allowed (except for the goalie). Any non compliance to this rule will result in a change of possession.

• No slap shots (stick may not be lifted above the hips). In the case of a high stick, the ball should change possession. It's the other team's responsibility to call it.

• Hand passes are not allowed and a change of possession will occur.

• When the Goalie covers or “Freezes” the ball, the opposing team should immediately stop digging for the ball…remember there is no whistle.

• Any team defaulting more than 2 games may be asked to leave the league.

• A game can end in a tie during the regular season. In the playoffs, games will be 50 minutes in duration in case of the eventuality of a tie. The result of a tie will be decided in a shootout. The order must be male followed by female and no one can shoot twice before all members of the team have had a chance. The shootout is 3 shots and the team with the most goals wins. If it is still tied after 3 shots, then it is sudden death, one shooter from each side until we have a winner.

• NO CONTACT, ROUGH PLAY OR VERBAL ABUSE WILL BE TOLERATED (This includes; name calling, threats, intimidation).  IF ANY OF THESE ACTIONS OCCUR, YOU WILL BE SHOWN A YELLOW CARD AND YOU MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE GAME (OR THE LEAGUE). It is your responsibility to signal rough behaviour, and for everyone’s sake please do so, however only players in the field of play while the infraction occurs may do so (No yelling from the bench). Don't take the game too seriously; Club Montreal is a social league where fun comes first and winning second.

•Our yellow card rules still apply. Any player considered to be dangerous will still be called. Please keep safety in mind first and make sure no one is close to you when you decide to clear the ball out your zone.

• If a player receives two yellow cards at any point in one game, the FP monitor reserves the right to expulse that player from the venue.

• In the case of any conflict or disagreement, the players must communicate the problem ONLY through the captain of their team. At this point the captain may resolve the issue with the opposing captain or the FP monitor. At NO TIME during the course of a game should players be fighting amongst each other or with the FP monitor. This behaviour will not be permitted. Anyone who does not follow this rule will immediately be given a yellow card. Three yellow cards (or warnings) result in a suspension from the league. The timeframe will be at management's discretion.

• Goalies CANNOT be pulled in an attempt to utilize an extra attacker at any point of the game
